Final Stats
Freshman Tabitha Tice gathered Susie Blaisdell's centering pass in the 73rd minute and quickly struck what proved to be the game-winning goal into the left corner of the net as Siena rallied past visiting Vermont 2-1 Wednesday afternoon in Loudonville. The Saints evened their record at 3-3 on the season with the victory.
Siena trailed 1-0 after a competitive first half. Vermont junior Kaitlin Francis broke the ice in the ninth minute. Francis collected a loose ball in front of the Siena net and guided it past Siena's Patti Carroll. Carroll had left the net to compete for the free ball and Francis took advantage with the unassisted tally.
It turned out to be the only goal of the afternoon for the Catamounts. Carroll made four saves to record her third victory of the season.
Siena missed an opportunity to tie the game in the 29th minutes when Katie Goodwin led a 3-on-2 break, feeding Blaisdell who crossed the ball to junior Chelsea Maguire. Maguire's attempt sailed just left of goal. With just four seconds remaining, Vermont nearly padded its lead when Lindsey Mucia fired a shot that ricocheted off the cross bar.
The Saints collected themselves at intermission and controlled the action in the second half.
Amy Loughridge tied the score with a flying header in traffic in the 32nd minute. The senior captain took advantage of a well-times cross by Tice and beat Catamount keeper Elizabeth Bradley with the one-timer that settled in the back left corner of the net.
Just under a minute later, it appeared the Saints had taken the lead when Blaisdell redirected a Maguire feed past Bradley. Blaisdell was whistled for an offside penalty, negating the go-ahead score.
The winning score followed a dramatic flurry of activity on the left side of the field. Blaisdell emerged with ball and promptly sent it toward the center of the field, where a well-guarded Tice played the ball off her body and unleashed a viscous shot that proved to be the difference in the game.
Siena held a 19-11 advantage in shots, out-shooting the Catamounts 11-4 after the break. Bradley collected seven saves in net for Vermont. No cards were distributed on the afternoon and both squads finished with 15 fouls.
It was the second straight win for Siena which returns to action Sunday at Quinnipiac.
