Loudonville, N.Y. - The Siena water polo team picked up its first two wins of the season, downing Penn State (Behrend) and Gannon, while losing to Mercyhurst this afternoon in Erie, Pa. The Saints secured wins of 16-6 and 9-6, while falling to Mercyhurst by a 12-5 margin. With the pair of wins Siena improves to 2-5.
In the first game of the day, the Saints broke open a 2-2 first period tie with seven goals in the second as they raced past Penn State (Behrend) 16-6. Five Siena players scored in double figures, led by Lauren Garrigan and Camille Norman who each posted hat tricks, while Lauren Biehle, Nicole Hagi and Caitlin Smith each added a pair of goals.
Norman had a phenomenal performance and finished with a game-high seven points, while Jackie Crosby added four points on a goal and three assists. Smith added three steals rounding out a solid all-around showing.
In the second game, the Saints kept their momentum going as they led wire-to-wire in a 9-6 triumph over Gannon. Alex Vespremi, Devan Ragg and Garrigan all notched two goals each.
In the final game of the afternoon, Siena missed their chance at the sweep as they fell at the hands of Mercyhurst, 12-5. Biehle scored four of the Saints five goals, while Garrigan added five steals.
The Saints will return to Loudonville to host the Fourth Annual Siena Invite on Saturday and Sunday. Siena's first game is slated against Carthage for 12:30 p.m. from the Siena Swim Center.
