Loudonville, N.Y. - The Siena water polo team concluded their weekend with a 1-2 record following a win over Utica and losses to Hartwick and Harvard at the Hartwick Invitational. The Saints (5-8) defeated Utica 16-0 and fell to Harvard by a score of 12-8 and to Hartwick by a 17-8 margin.
Against #15 Hartwick, the Saints hung tough playing to just a 3-2 deficit after the first quarter. But Hartwick's offense erupted for five goals in the second quarter to widen their margin and ultimately hang on for the win. Lauren Garrigan led all Siena scorers with four points including a hat trick, while Camille Norman added a pair of scores and three steals.
In Game Two of the Hartwick Invitational against Harvard, the teams played to an evenly contested 7-7 game through three quarters. In the final quarter the Saints missed a pair of penalty shots and the Crimson notched five goals to secure the victory. Norman had a career day, adding five more points on two goals and three assists while also drawing four ejections. Jackie Crosby also contributed a pair of goals and assists to Siena's offensive attack.
The Green and Gold salvaged the weekend with a blowout 16-0 triumph at Utica. Lisa Reilly and Lynh Nguyen combined for the Saints' first shutout of the season. Offensively, nine Siena players found the back of the net, led by hat tricks from Nicole Hagi and Alex Vespremi.
Siena now heads west to California for the week with several games lined up beginning with the Claremont Convergence which gets underway Saturday in Claremont, Calif.
