Water Polo Finishes 1-3 at Claremont Convergence

Loudonville, N.Y. - The Siena water polo team began their week long swing through the Golden State with a 1-3 record at the Claremont Convergence Tournament in Claremont, Calif. The Saints defeated Colorado College and fell to Pomona, University of the Redlands and Occidental. The weekend showings place the Green and Gold at 6-11 on the season.

In the first game of the tournament, the Saints dropped a 12-5 decision to Pomona. Jackie Crosby led the Saints posting a hat trick, while Molly Chamberlain and Nicole Hagi anchored the defensive corps with four and three steals respectively.

In Game Two, Siena dropped a heartbreaker 10-9 in double overtime to the University of the Redlands. The Green and Gold harbored a 6-2 lead at one point before Redlands rallied to force overtime. In the first OT, both teams each scored but in the second and final extra session, Redlands scored the lone goal for the win.

Crosby had one of the finest showings in program history posting a phenomenal eight point performance including six goals and two assists, while also drawing three ejections. Lauren Garrigan added a goal and three assists while Chamberlain was again stellar at the defensive end adding three more steals.

In the third game the Saints finally broke through with a convincing 17-4 triumph over Colorado College. Garrigan and Lauren Biehle led the way tallying four goals apiece, while Crosby added a hat trick and Hagi notched a pair more goals. Lynh Nguyen played the second half in goal and tallied seven saves including a stop on a 5M penalty shot and also recorded two assists.

In the final game of the tournament, Siena dropped a hard fought battle to Occidental, 8-6. Trailing 5-3 entering the final period, the Saints rallied to tie the game at 5-5 before Occidental pulled away for good. Garrigan added two more goals, but it was Crosby who again led the way with yet another hat trick and two assists for five total points.

Crosby posted one of the most memorable weekends in program history finishing the four game tournament with a whopping 15 goals and six assists in amassing 21 total points.

Siena will conclude its California trip on Wednesday for a meeting against Claremont-Mudd-Scripps. Game time is set for 8 p.m. Eastern and 5 p.m. Pacific.
