Loudonville, N.Y. - The Siena water polo team relinquished a two goal lead in the final period before falling 9-8 in overtime to Iona this afternoon in the Fourth Annual Siena Invite Championship game at Siena Swim Center. Jackie Crosby and Lauren Garrigan each recorded hat tricks in the losing effort as the Saints fell just short of their first ever Siena Invite Championship game. Prior to the game, the Green and Gold honored graduating seniors Kaedy Graves, Lisa Reilly and Caitlin Smith in a Senior Day ceremony.
The Saints (4-6) got a pair of early scores in the first from Crosby who cashed in on two 6-on-5 attempts. Entering the fourth, Siena maintained a 6-4 lead, but could not overcome a strong offensive response from the Gaels.
Garrigan led the way offensively, finishing with six total points in adding three assists, while Lauren Biehle chipped in with the Saints' other two scores. Reilly concluded a solid weekend of play, posting 11 key saves between the pipes.
For their efforts, Crosby and Biehle garnered All-Tournament First Team honors, while Reilly, Garrigan and Gina Guevara earned Second Team honors for the Saints. Iona's Amanda Brucia was named Tournament MVP.
The Saints return to action on Saturday for the Hartwick Invitational to be held in Oneonta, N.Y.
