Final Stats
Loudonville, N.Y. - LeMoyne broke open a slim 3-2 halftime lead, outscoring the Siena women's lacrosse team 10-2 in the second stanza en route to a 13-4 Dolphins triumph this afternoon at Siena Turf Field. Four different players each recorded a goal for the Saints coming off of free-position attempts.
Rebekah Elmer and Michelle Lissner staked LeMoyne (7-4) to an early 2-0 lead that they would never relinquish. Ryan Tierney and Erin Montgomery each tallied a pair of scores for Siena (2-6) in the opening 30 minutes to close the gap at intermission to 3-2.
But after a low scoring, defensive oriented first half, the Dolphins offense broke loose in the second. LeMoyne scored the first four goals of the half, padding their advantage to 7-2 following Whitney Vecchio's third goal of the game and team leading 31st on the season with 18:29 remaining. Vecchio added two assists to tie for a game-high in points with five along with teammate Kylie Rosette.
The Green and Gold added two more free-position scores from Catherine Quinlan and Lynn Harkins, but it was not enough. The Saints excelled in free-position attempts for the game cashing in on four of their ten.
LeMoyne held slim advantages over the Saints in shots (29-21) and groundballs (19-17) although they committed 22 fouls to just 11 that where whistled on Siena.
The Saints will look to stop their three game losing skid when they return to action for the start of league play this weekend in the Buffalo area. Siena will open MAAC play on Friday night at Canisius. Game time is slated for 7 p.m.
