Loudonville, N.Y. - Playing in the program's first ever MAAC Tournament game, the fourth seeded Siena water polo team dropped an 11-9 double overtime heartbreaker to tournament host and #1 seed Marist this afternoon at the McCann Natatorium in Poughkeepsie, N.Y. With the loss, Siena fell to 11-19 and will play #3 seed Wagner tomorrow at noon in the consolation game.
In what was a tightly contested battle throughout, the Saints gave the Red Foxes their best shot in trying to hand the hosts their first league loss of the season. Neither team led by more than a goal at the end of any period, save for the end of double overtime.
Lauren Biehle paced Siena with a hat trick, while Devan Ragg and reigning MAAC Player of the Week Lauren Garrigan each added a pair of goals. Molly Chamberlain and Jackie Crosby accounted for the Saints' other scores.
Katelin McCahill led the Red Foxes with five goals, while Maggie Hatcher added three. Marist drew seven ejections to the Saints' three.
Siena and Wagner split a pair of meetings this season with the Saints triumphant in the first game, 14-12 in double overtime, while the Seahawks earned the split with a narrow 11-10 victory last weekend.
