ALBANY, N.Y. - Edwin Ubiles had 19 points, including a 360-dunk in the final seconds that served as an emphatic exclamation point for Siena's 91-81 win over Rider Friday night in the nationally televised MAAC Championship rematch before 6,656 fans at Times Union Center.
Ubiles led five Saints in double figures, marking the first time Siena has had five players reach double figures in a game since early last season.
Alex Franklin had 15 points and 10 rebounds for his second double-double of the season and MAAC Player of the Year Kenny Hasbrouck scored 16 of his 18 points in the second half, including four 3-pointers.
Still, point guard Ronald Moore stole the show for the fourth straight game. Moore finished with 13 points, eight assists, six rebounds and three steals and had the Siena offense firing on all cylinders, all night.
The Saints took a 41-40 lead to the lockerroom, and after re-gaining the lead, 48-47, at the 17:40 mark of the second half on a Ryan Rossiter layup, led the rest of the way. Rossiter's layup ignited a decisive 14-2 run that turned a one-point deficit into a comfortable 11-point cushion with 14:51 to go.
Rider hung tough, and nearly matched the Saints offensively. Harris Mansell led five Broncs in double figures with 19 points. Ryan Thompson and Mike Ringgold each had 16. Novar Gadson and Justin Robinson had 14 and 11 points respectively.
Gadson's dunk cut the lead to 72-68 with 7:25 remaining, but he was whistled for a technical for slapping the backboard. The Broncs again closed the gap to four, 76-72, on a Gadson layup, but Siena scored the next four points and Rider got no closer than six the rest of the way.
Offense was not an issue for either team. The Saints had 20 assists on 35 baskets and shot 52% from the field. Rider made 34 shots and grabbed 12 offensive boards.
Athleticism was on display for the four professional scouts in attendance. Moments before Ubiles' dunk brought the Times Union Center crowd to its feet, Alex Franklin hammered home a breakaway one-hand jam.
Not to be out-done Ryan Thompson had a thunderous windmill jam in the second half off a breakaway and found Ringgold on an alley-oop pass earlier in the game. Ubiles finished a well-timed alley-oop from Moore late in the second half as well.
Siena improves top 5-0 in the MAAC for the first time since the 1999-00 season. Rider suffered its first conference loss of the season.
The Saints play at Manhattan Sunday afternoon in the first of three straight league road games.
