Edwin Ubiles is one of 50 college basketball players in the nation named to this year's Naismith Trophy Watch List. Ubiles is on pace to become Siena's third 2,000-point scorer.
The watch list was compiled by the Atlanta Tipoff Club's Board of Selectors, which based its criteria on player performances from the previous year and expectations for the 2009-10 college basketball season. The Naismith Trophy presented by AT&T will be awarded at the 2010 NCAA Men's Final Four in Indianapolis, Ind.
Ubiles was recently named to FOXSports.com's mid-major Preseason All-American Team and to CBS College Sports' Second Team non-BCS team.
Ubiles participated in the LeBron James and Paul Pierce Skills Academies this summer and is listed on several 2010 NBA mock draft boards.
In 2008-09, Ubiles led the Saints with 15 points per game. Ubiles, who was named to the MAAC Preseason First Team on Tuesday, is the only player in the league represented on the ledger and the first since Jason Thompson in 2007. Thompson's brother Ryan was named MAAC Preseason Player of the Year. Ubiles is also one of just seven non-BCS players on the list.
Siena also received votes for both the AP and ESPN/Usa Today Coaches Polls which were released today. The Saints had the 28th most points in the Coaches' Poll and the 27th most in the AP Poll.
