ALBANY, N.Y. - Kenny Hasbrouck scored 23 points - the 30th 20+ point effort of his stellar career - and Siena stomped Manhattan 93-69 before a sellout crowd of 8,065 on Senior Night Thursday at Times Union Center.
The Saints (20-6, 14-1) never trailed in perhaps their most dominant efforts of the season. Hasbrouck was one of three players to score 20 points or more. Clarence Jackson added 21 off the bench and Edwin Ubiles had 20.
But the story in the first half may have been the defense. Ryan Rossiter had seven of his eight blocks before intermission - the most by a Saint since Monty Henderson set the school mark with nine against New Hampshire on January 30, 1989.
Rossiter finished with eight points and eight rebounds and could have made a bid at the Saints first triple double in four years if he wasn't taken out of the game when it got out of hand midway through the second half.
They Saints took their first double digit lead, 17-6, less than seven minutes into the game. They led 47-31 at halftime and pushed the lead to 21 on a Rossiter layup less than two minutes after the start of the final stanza. The lead reached 30, 72-42, on a Jackson 3-pointer with 11:08 to go.
The margin enabled head coach Fran McCaffery to sub freely. Senior Josh Duell saw his first action in 10 games after spraining his knee in Siena's loss at Kansas. He scored three points in 12 minutes. Classmate Erik Harris, the final member of the class, played the final eight minutes, scoring three rebounds and adding eight assists.
The Saints shot 52% from the field, 37% from distance and 84% from the free throw line in scoring a season-high 93 points. They limited Manhattan (14-11, 8-7) to just 41% from the field, forced 16 Jasper turnovers and held a decisive 40-33 advantage in rebounding.
Siena's offense was fluid and balanced. Ronald Moore had nine of the team's season-high 25 assists. Behind Rossiter the Saints blocked 13 shots - their most in a game since setting a school record with 14 in an 85-55 win over Maine on February, 19 1987.
Manhattan was led by Darryl Crawford who scored 14 of his 22 points in the first half and collected six rebounds and four assists. Chris Smith scored 15 of his 17 points after the break and Laurence Jolicoeur came off the bench to scored 10.
The win pushed Siena's home win streak to 17, which ties for the fourth longest such streak in the nation. The Saints can wrap up at least a share of the MAAC regular-season title for the second straight season with a win at Iona Monday. It marks the third straight season Siena has won 20 straight games against Division I opponents, a first for the program
