The University of Redlands broke an eight all fourth period tie with a pair of late tallies to defeat the Siena water polo team 10-8 this afternoon in Redlands, Calif. The defeat dropped the Saints to 0-3 on the young season.
The game concluded the day-long University of Redlands Tournament. The Saints were scheduled to take on Claremont-Mudd-Scripps earlier, but the game had been cancelled due to travel issues.
The teams played to an even 3-3 score after one with the Bulldogs harboring a 5-4 lead at the half. Siena tied it up at seven all through three and the score was tied again at 8-8 early in the fourth before Redlands notched the final two goals to pull out the win.
Senior captain Lauren Garrigan led the Saints with five goals and also drew three ejections. Siena's all-time leading scorer, Garrigan has registered 11 of the Saints' 16 goals so far this season.
Camille Norman, Gina Guevara and Chelsea Reczek accounted for the other Siena goals. Norman added an assist to go along with five steals, while teammate Devan Ragg contributed a team best three assists. Freshman Jennifer Kissel made eight saves in goal.
The Saints continue their week long California trip Monday at Whittier. Game time is set for 3 p.m. Pacific Time.
