Siena women's lacrosse was tied 8-8 five minutes into the second half before they scored four straight goals and cruised to an 18-11 season opener win at Bryant University Sunday afternoon. Lindsey Rosecrans, Courtney Highsmith and Allie Kain each scored four goals in the victory.
Bryant (0-3) jumped out to a 2-0 lead on goals from Eliza Demarseilles and Lauren Sheridan in the first 7:16 of play. Siena (1-0) battled from behind the entire first half. Highsmith scored three of her four goals in the opening half to keep her team close. They trailed 7-6 at intermission.
Siena grabbed their first lead of the game four minutes into the second half with goals from Rosecrans and Kain. Lauren Albert tied it for the Bulldogs at the 24:22 mark, but it wouldn't last long. Kain scored two goals in the next 52 seconds to put the Saints back on top for good. Sophomore Caitlin Mikel and freshman Deirdre McQuillan followed with goals to make it 12-8.
The Saints scored six of the final seven goals of the game to secure the win.
Siena outshot Bryant 46-27.
Freshman midfielder Michelle Andreo scored two goals and had three assists in her first collegiate game. Freshman goalie Kristin Concordia made eight saves in the win.
Head coach Andrea Duffy won her first game back in the Green and Gold since she served as an assistant coach in 2005.
Siena returns to action on Wednesday when they play at the University of Vermont at 3 p.m.
