Courtney Highsmith and Deirdre McQuillan each scored four goals as Siena defeated Sacred Heart 13-7 Saturday afternoon in Fairfield, Conn. and moves to 4-1, the best start in program history. Kristin Concordia made 12 saves in the win.
Sacred Heart (1-4) took the early lead on a free-position shot by Amanda Williams just four minutes in. It would be their only lead of the game as Siena (4-1) scored two goals in a minute and a half by McQuillan and Highsmith. Williams scored her second goal of the game to tie it at the 22:24 mark. But Siena scored the final three goals of the half to take a 5-2 lead in to halftime.
The Saints added two goals in the first five minutes of the second half to extend the lead to 7-2. Williams (4) and Kate Kmiotek (3) fought back for the Pioneers as they provided all seven of the team's goals in the game. Siena outscored Sacred Heart 8-5 in the second half.
Siena converted 4-of-9 free-position shots while Sacred Heart scored on 2-of-3. Concordia picked up the win as she made 12 saves. Chelsea Wagner made 11 saves in the loss.
Siena returns to action Wednesday when they host Wagner at 4 p.m.
