LOUDONVILLE, N.Y. - Stony Brook's Robbie Campbell scored the game winning goal with 62 seconds remaining in the game to defeat Siena 8-7 Saturday afternoon at Siena Turf Field. The Saints fought back from five deficits and tied the game each time, but couldn't do it in the final minute. They have lost their last three games by a total of four goals. Chris Zarins scored a game-high four goals in the loss.
Stony Brook (2-2) and Siena (1-4) played another tight game in this growing rivalry. The Seawolves have won each of the last three meetings by a total of four goals. They led this one by no more than two goals and were tied with Siena five times.
Siena's first four goals came off the stick of Zarins. He leads the team with nine goals this season.
The Saints came out of halftime strong, scoring the first two goals and dominating play. Zarins scored a man-up goal 2 ½ minutes in to the half off a pass from Jordan Loftus. Siena tied the game five minutes later. They extended possessions and continued ripping shots in a 2-minute span. After the first one was blocked and the next four went wide, Chris Roth found the net and tied the game 6-6.
In the fourth quarter, Stony Brook's Kyle Belton gave his team a 7-6 lead with 8:41 on the clock. The Saints knotted it for a fifth time on Bryan Neufeld's man-up goal just 95 seconds later. Charlie Paar stood tall after giving up the game-tying goal, making five saves the rest of the way. He finished with eight saves.
Campbell scored the game-winner with 1:02 on the clock and gave his team the 8-7 win.
Brent Herbst made 12 saves in the loss.
Siena returns to action on Saturday, March 14 when they host Saint Joseph's in their Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference opener. Game time is scheduled for 1 p.m.
