Final Stats
Siena women's lacrosse lost its regular season finale at Iona, 18-7, Sunday afternoon in New Rochelle, N.Y. The Saints end their season on a nine game losing streak, and finish 6-10 overall.
Iona (5-10, 2-4) took a 1-0 lead at the 24:42 mark until Siena's (6-10, 0-6) Courtney Highsmith tied the game a minute later. The Gaels went on a 6-1 run over the next eight minutes and took a 9-4 lead into halftime.
Iona added on to its lead with two goals in the first five minutes of the second half. Highsmith scored a free-position goal three minutes later to bring the Saints within six goals (11-5). But Iona rattled off six straight goals in a 10-minute span to take complete control of the game17-5.
Siena was slightly outshot in the game, 35-34, but put just 20 shots on goal. Iona's goalie Colleen Magri made 11 saves and allowed five goals before she was relieved by backup Carlee Street. Christie Godlewski led all scorers with eight points on two goals and six assists.
Highsmith led the Saints with three points (2 G, 1 A) while Lindsey Rosecrans had one assist. Freshman Lauren Corso forced four turnovers and had four ground balls. Classmate Kristin McMillan led all players with eight ground balls.
