Freshman Lia Gizzarelli finished third in her second collegiate race at the NJIT Classic Sunday morning. She led the Siena women's cross country team with a time of 25:33.10 in her first career 6K race. Freshman Jonathan Duncan led the men's team with a time of 29:52, finishing 14th overall.
"Liz Gizzarelli did really great once again and finished third overall in her first-ever 6K race," Head Coach Alison Wade said. "It was a good opportunity for everyone to preview the MAAC Championships courses and see what they'll be dealing with on October 30th."
The women's team defeated Fairleigh Dickinson, Saint Peter's and NJIT and lost to Hofstra. Freshman Christy Bak (5th-26:23) and junior Brina Seguine (10th-26:53.40) helped the team with top-10 finishes.
The men's team beat Fairleigh Dickinson and Saint Peter's and lost to Hofstra and NJIT. David Ellsworth (15th-30:04), John Farley (19th-30:14) and Zack Fitzsimmons (20th-30:15) all finished in the top-20. The men competed without their top three runners from last week (Ian Donnelly, Joe Abed-El-Latif and Stephen Gwizdak).
Siena returns to action this coming Saturday in the Victor F. Leeber Invitational at Fairfield, Conn.
