Box Score
Siena's offense came to life Sunday in a spirited effort firing a season-high 11 shots, but fell just short in a 1-0 defeat at Vermont. Lisa Heimerle led the way with a career-high seven shots, but neither she nor the Saints could solve UVM's Brooke Crane who stood tall making five saves for the shutout.
The Saints (1-9), which had taken 16 shots combined in its past five games, turned up the tempo in which Siena also managed eight short corners. But Vermont (5-7), got on the board just 1:28 into the second half with the only goal of the game.
The Catamounts' Taylor Silvestro deflected a long ball from Jenna Horowski up and into the cage past Beth Meyers for the decisive tally. It was the only blemish on an otherwise outstanding day for the freshman goalkeeper who made 10 saves.
UVM out-shot Siena 17-11 and took nine corners to the Saints' eight in a fairly evenly played game. In addition to Heimerle's offensive effort, Olivia Whelly added two shots to the Saints' cause.
Siena returns home for just the third time this season when they close out non-conference competition Friday against Saint Louis. The first-ever meeting between the programs begins at 4 p.m. at Siena Turf Field.
