Camille Norman's five goals were not enough as Siena Water Polo dropped a tight battle, 19-13 to No. 12 Hartwick in Oneonta, N.Y. Sophomore Katie Ness added a hat trick in her first game of the year.
Hartwick jumped out on the Saints quickly, opening a 6-3 lead after the first quarter and never trailed. Siena (1-5) would play strong however in the second half, outscoring Hartwick 8-6, but fell short in the end.
Norman, who scored five times, has enjoyed a breakout start to her junior season, having now tallied 17 goals in the first six games of the year. In addition to Norman and Ness, Devan Ragg also recorded a multiple goal performance with two tallies, while Jackie Crosby, Gina Guevara and Nicole Hagi accounted for the other Siena scores. Jenn Kissel made eight saves in goal.
Hartwick was led by Christina Allen, who led all scorers with six goals as the Saints' dropped a game to a ranked opponent for the third time during the young season as they try to weather a brutal early non-conference slate.
The Saints return to action when they begin their annual California trip with their first of eight games in The Golden State Wednesday night at California Baptist. Game time is 6 p.m. EST, 3 p.m. PST.
