Final Stats
The Siena women's tennis team dropped a 7-0 decision at UMass Saturday at the Bay Road Tennis Club inside Hampshire College in the first match of its spring season. UMass, which fell to No. 44 Yale on the road Friday night, bounced-back improving their record to 4-1 in dual matches, and 1-1 on the spring. Siena dropped to 2-1.
Playing first doubles, Candynce Boney and captain Maude Lecluyse were very sharp, losing just one game to Jasleen Sandhu and Nicole Ross in an 8-1 victory. On the next court, Julia Comas and Magdalena Ploch handled Siena's Danielle Crill and Elora Benfer, 8-2. Tanisha Hodgson and Jocelyn Providence finished off the doubles sweep, as the two claimed an 8-4 victory.
The Minutewomen did not lose a single set on the day in singles play, defeating each of the Saints in straight-sets. Ploch, who entered the weekend ranked No. 10 in the region, knocked-off Sandhu, 6-1, 6-1 in first singles. Comas and Crill played each other tough in the first set, with Comas prevailing, 6-4, before taking the second set, 6-1. The rest of the Minutewomen would not lose more than two games in a set, as Boney, Lecluyse, Carpenter and Providence all registered solid wins.
