LOUDONVILLE, N.Y. - Siena Water Polo earned a split in MAAC competition this afternoon at Siena Swim Center, defeating St. Francis (N.Y.) 14-6 and losing to Iona 14-9 on Senior Day. Senior co-captain Gina Guevara, who was honored before the victory over the Terriers, scored two key goals in that game to pace the Saints.
In the opener, Siena (10-17, 2-2) battled the Gaels (14-11, 3-0) to a 7-7 halftime tie. But Iona had a huge thrid quarter, outscoring the Saints 4-1 in the period to pull away for the victory.
Camille Norman led all Siena players with six total points including five goals, while Jackie Crosby added four assists. Katie Ness was strong defensively, registering a career-high five steals while also adding a goal. Jennifer Kissel made 14 stops between the pipes.
In the nightcap it was once again a tightly contested battle. The Terriers (0-9, 0-4) tied things up at 6-6 in the third, but the Siena offense exploded to score the final eight goals of the game unanswered.
Crosby led the Saints with seven points including a career-high five assists, while Norman and Devan Ragg finished with hat tricks. Kissel made 15 more saves in goal, while also adding an assist and steal.
The Saints return to action Sunday for the backend of MAAC weekend action in Poughkeepsie, N.Y. Siena takes on Wagner at noon and host Marist at 4:30 p.m.
