LOUDONVILLE, N.Y. - Junior Caitlin Mikel took over right where she left off, scoring five goals and leading Siena to its second straight MAAC victory, 15-6 against Iona Sunday afternoon. Mikel scored seven against Manhattan on Friday, giving her 12 goals in Siena's two wins this weekend.
Seniors Cate Quinlan, Jaclyn Papa and Allie Kain were honored in a pre-game ceremony for their dedication to Siena lacrosse the past four years.
Siena (6-6, 2-1) held Iona (4-8, 1-1) in check the entire day, holding the Gaels to two first half goals and allowing the fewest goals against this season. Iona had trouble moving the ball up the field, going 11-for-19 on clears.
Caitlyn Collins scored her team's first three goals in the second half and cut the deficit to 9-5. But Siena responded with a four-goal run in less than two minutes.
Two different times in the game, Iona scored and on the ensuing draw Mikel scored nine seconds later. Both times she caught the ball in mid-air and streaked past the entire defense for a one-on-one with the goalie.
Siena goalie Kristin Concordia made six saves in the win. Carlee Street made 10 saves in the loss.
Junior Allie Primo scored three goals and sophomore Deirdre McQuillan had two goals and one assist. Kain and Erin Hepper each scored twice.
The Saints return to action on Friday when they host Canisius in the final home game of the season.
