Siena Water Polo was swept for a second straight weekend by Wagner and Marist, falling 12-6 to the Seahawks and 10-8 to the Red Foxes in Brooklyn, N.Y. Although the Saints have lost four straight conference matches they remain alive for a spot in the four-team MAAC Tournament if they can defeat St. Francis (N.Y.) on Sunday.
In the opener, Wagner raced out to a 4-2 first quarter lead and never looked back. Camille Norman led the Saints (10-21, 2-6) with a pair of goals, while Jackie Crosby, Gina Guevara, Monica Chaviano and Traci Robertson added the others.
In the nightcap, Marist broke open a 1-1 tie with five second quarter goals to take a 6-3 lead into intermission. The Red Foxes extended its lead to 10-5 after three.
In the fourth quarter the Saints clamped down, shutting out the prolific Red Foxes' offense. Siena made a comeback bid and did score three goals but it was not enough as the team fell just short.
Norman added a hat trick, finishing with five goals for the day. Her 77 tallies for the season leave her just six goals shy of Lauren Garrigan's single-season record of 83 set last season.
Guevara, who has come up big offensively of late in her final season for the Saints added two more goals as did Chaviano. Katie Ness accounted for the other tally.
The Saints conclude the regular season Sunday with games against Villanova (10:30 a.m.) and St. Francis (3 p.m.) in Staten Island, N.Y. With a win over the Terriers, Siena would qualify for the MAAC Tournament for the second time in the last three seasons.
