Siena's second ever trip to the MAAC Tournament was a quick one. The fourth-seeded Saints were over-matched in a 17-4 loss to #1 seed Marist in the McCann Natatorium here in Poughkeepsie Saturday.
The Red Foxes (17-14) jumped out to a 4-0 lead, and were up 7-2 at the end of the first quarter and 10-2 at halftime. The Saints (12-22) simply could never keep up.
Senior Samantha Swartz out-scored the entire Siena team, posting five goals. Kristen Barnett tallied four and Angie Rampton added three to pace the Red Foxes.
Marist also dominated on defense, holding Siena's leading scorer Camille Norman scoreless. Jackie Crosby scored two of Siena's four goals, registering the Saints' first tally midway through the first quarter and scoring the team's only third quarter goal.
Katie Ness got Siena on the board with a goal in the first quarter and Rebecca Robinson closed the scoring with the final goal of the game with just 1:47 on the clock.
Marist advances to the MAAC Championship match, where it will face the winner of #2 Iona vs. #3 Wagner at 2 p.m. Sunday. Siena will take on the loser tomorrow at noon.
