LOUDONVILLE, N.Y. - Siena women's golf junior tri-captain Catherine Shomo has been named the MAAC Golfer of the Month for April as announced by conference headquarters. The Rutland, Vt. native, who won the award for the first time in her career, becomes the third different Saint to earn Golfer of the Month honors this season.
Shomo had a sensational month of April for the Saints, recording a pair of top-five finishes. Shomo led Siena to a second place finish at the Dartmouth Invitational, placing tied for third overall with rounds of 79 and a career-low 71 in the final round. She followed that up with scores of 79 and 72 in leading Siena to a fourth place finish at the Columbia Roar-ee Invitational.
Shomo joins fellow captain Bridget Carr (September) and freshman Cortney Tilley (March) as MAAC Golfer of the Month honorees for the 2009-10 season.
Shomo and the Saints will look to capture an unprecedented 10th straight MAAC Championship this weekend. The three-day MAAC Championships take place Friday through Sunday at the Celebration Golf Club in Celebration, Fla.
