Siena Water Polo opened its conference slate by splitting a pair of games Saturday in Villanova, Pa. The Saints fell to Iona 12-6 in the opener, before topping host Villanova 9-3 in the nightcap for their first conference win.
Against the Gaels, the Saints (9-16, 1-1) trailed throughout as they fell to 1-18 all-time against their MAAC rival. Siena out-shot Iona 34-24 but it did not make a difference.
Camille Norman finished with a hat trick and four total points, while Jackie Crosby added a pair of tallies. Jennifer Kissel posted 12 saves in goal while adding an assist.
In the nightcap Siena opened a 5-2 lead at intermission and never looked back. Crosby and Norman again led the way with Crosby scoring a game-high four goals, while Norman added five points including a pair of tallies.
Kissel had one of her finest games in goal, registering 13 saves while allowing just three goals in posting a .813% save percentage for the game. She also added a steal and yet another assist, giving her a career-high 13 assists this season from the goalie position.
The Saints return to action Saturday for Senior Day at Siena Swim Center. The Saints host Iona (10 a.m.) and St. Francis (2:30 p.m.). Just prior to the 2:30 game, the Saints will honor senior captain Gina Guevara in a pregame ceremony.
