LOUDONVILLE, N.Y. - Siena women's soccer was picked to finish third in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Preseason Coaches' Poll Tuesday afternoon. Loyola, the defending MAAC Champion, was voted the preseason favorite with 96 points. The preseason poll and All-MAAC Team are voted on by the league's 10 head coaches.
Juniors Ashleigh Barone, Shannon Clancy and Maren Serafine and sophomore Caitlin Cahalan were all selected to the Preseason All-MAAC Team.
Barone and Cahalan are two of the most dynamic strikers in the league. They both tallied nine goals and four assists and ranked second and third in the MAAC in points per game respectively. Cahalan was named MAAC co-Rookie of the Year and Siena College Female Rookie of the Year following last season.
Clancy and Serafine led Siena to the top defensive team in the MAAC last season. The Saints allowed 0.94 goals per game. By comparison, the second best defense in the league, Loyola, gave up 1.22 goals/game.
The Saints finished the 2009 regular season in second place before losing in the MAAC quarterfinals at ESPN's Wide World of Sports Complex in Florida.
