LOUDONVILLE, N.Y. - Two Siena women's soccer players were honored by the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Monday afternoon following the team's sensational start to the season. Freshman forward Brittany Pfaff won MAAC Offensive Player of the Week and junior goalkeeper Laura Ettinger took home MAAC Defensive Player of the Week.
Siena shocked UConn 3-2 in overtime in the season opener and then scored four second half goals to beat Stony Brook 4-2 on Friday evening. Both games were comeback wins on the road.
Pfaff scored three goals in her first two collegiate games. She scored her first goal in overtime to defeat UConn and then tallied two second half goals in a 4-2 comeback win at Stony Brook. In her overtime goal, Pfaff collected Ettinger's punt at midfield, turned past one defender and then beat the center back to create a breakaway. Pfaff placed her shot low and through the legs of the goalkeeper. She leads the team in goals (three), points (six), shots (eight) and shots on goal (four).
Ettinger made seven saves in the win at UConn. She faced 28 shots including 20 in the second half.
Siena (2-0) will play Providence (3-0) in its home opener this Friday at 4 p.m.
