Final Stats
The Siena women's tennis team went to Worcester with a game plan Saturday and executed it to perfection. The Saints opened their season with an impressive 6-1 triumph over the Crusaders, were clicking on all cylinders.
"The girls practiced really hard all week," Head Coach Andy Christodoulou said. "They were counting on each other, and they went after Holy Cross relentlessly. They were in a good, solid state of mind for our first match which translated into good simple but solid tennis."
The Saints rallied behind their top gun, junior Jasleen Sandhu. Sandhu coasted to a 6-3 and 6-1 win over Molly Montgomery at top singles and teamed with Nicole Ross for an 8-2 victory at top doubles.
Freshman Carly Holloway also won at singles and doubles in her collegiate debut. She topped Maya Welsh 6-2 and 6-2 at No. 3 singles and paired with Danielle Crill for an 8-4 win at second doubles.
Jessica Asselin and Nicole Ross carried fourth and fifth singles respectfully to assure the win.
In exhibition play, Jen Galante lost 6-4 and 6-2 to Katie McKenna. In doubles exhibition, Jess Asselin and Jen Messing defeated Jess DeSimone and Carrie Dajani 8-6.
"Everybody was focused and they did exactly what we asked," Christodoulou said. "It was a total team win."
The Saints return to the courts Thursday at Hartford.
