Saints Suffer Third Straight Shutout Loss

Sept. 19, 2010

Box Score

Siena Field Hockey's offense continued to struggle Sunday as the Saints were shutout for a third straight game and fourth time in seven contests this season in a 6-0 defeat at Hofstra. Goalies Beth Meyers and Alison Baillargeon combined to make 15 saves.

The Saints (1-6) have been outscored 12-0 over their past three defeats and out-shot 84-7 during their recent winless skid over the past calendar week. Sunday was no different as Hofstra (5-3) controlled from start to finish, out-shooting the Saints 39-3.

The Pride spread out its scoring, tallying three goals in each half. Arielle Williams and Krizia Layne led the way with five points including two goals apiece.

Meyers stopped eight shots while allowing four goals in her 45 minutes of action, while Baillargeon turned aside seven of the nine shots she faced in relief. Hofstra's Amanda Heyde and Meredith Golden made two saves in the combined shutout effort.

Mackenzie Smith and Olivia Whelly accounted for the Saints' two top scoring opportunities, firing both of their shots on goal.

Siena returns home hoping for a change of fortunes Wednesday afternoon in a 4 p.m. start against Lehigh. The Saints won their only other home game to date this season, defeating Holy Cross 1-0 on Sept. 9
