Cornell Final
David Gushee shot an average round of 73 to tie for sixth overall and lead Siena men's golf to an eighth place finish at the Cornell Invitational. The Saints were steady on the links throughout all three rounds and were the top finisher amongst all three competing MAAC schools.
Binghamton (868) led all weekend long and won the team championship by 13 strokes over Columbia. Siena (906) held off Canisius (912) to lead all MAAC schools. Rider (937) tied for 11th.
After shooting an even par round of 72 Saturday, Gushee concluded the tournament with rounds of 71 and 76. He finished just eight strokes behind the individual champion Jake Katz of Binghamton who was the only player to shoot under par for the tournament.
Justin Deitz (T-21st) and Jess Esposito (T-30th) also shot consistently in the mid-70s to finish in the top 30. Deitz led the Saints with a 73 in the final round, while Esposito shot a 74.
The Saints return to the links one final time this fall the weekend of Oct. 11 when they participate in the Connecticut Cup hosted by UCONN.
