Siena field hockey got off to a rough start Sunday at Robert Morris, falling behind 3-0 in the 11th minute. Rather than fold, though, the Saints mounted a furious charge, pecking away and getting chances to tie late before time ran out and the Colonials escaped with a 3-2 win.

Siena (0-15, 0-4 NEC) got their first goal from the same source of their last three. Sophomore forward Jessica Smith took a penalty corner, came out to catch a rebound from Cory dela Gorgendiere, and fired one past Robert Morris's goalkeeper to put the Saints on the board.

The comeback continued in the 43rd minute. Junior Kelly Johansmeyer tipped one in off a corner, with assists to both Smith and Lindsay Mayo. Up 3-0 after 10 minutes, the Colonials (7-10, 1-3 NEC) were suddenly forced to protect a slim, one-goal lead.

Siena had chances to tie the game late, but shots from Katherine Bowie, Kelly Johansmeyer, and Olivia Whelly couldn't find the back of the cage, and Robert Morris eked out the win. Sophomore goalkeeper Beth Meyers stopped nine shots in the losing effort, while Mayo and Michaela Sullivan each had defensive saves.

Siena returns home on Friday afternoon, hosting Quinnipiac in a 4 p.m. tilt at Siena Turf Field.
