ORONO, MAINE - Will history repeat itself? Siena sure hopes so. Last season the Saints snapped a seven-game losing streak by winning the final game of 2010, spurring a six-game winning streak to start the new year. Tonight, Siena looks for some more late-December magic as it faces Maine here at the Alfond Sports Arena in a 6 p.m. tip.
Gameday Central coverage of the Saints' (1-7) last non-conference game of the year and final tilt of 2011 begins at 5:30 p.m. with the Rose and Kiernan and Berkshire Bank Pregame Show on WVCR 88.3 FM "The Saint."
Both Siena and Maine (3-9) are in search of their first wins of the month as the Saints have dropped all four games in December and five in a row. Meanwhile, the Black Bears have dropped all six of their games this month.
But tonight, history is on Siena's side.
In addition to last December's year-ending win at Fordham, Siena also ended the 2009 calendar year with a win over Sacred Heart which led to a three-game winning streak, marking the program's most productive stretch of that season.
This year's version of the Saints can draw several similarities from the past two seasons. Like in 2009 and 2010, Siena approaches the end of the year playing much better basketball of late. The Saints have shown marked improvement the past three games - most notably on the defensive end - and they hope that will lead to a win tonight.
Mike Demos and Steve Amedio have the call beginning with pregame coverage on WVCR 88.3 FM "The Saint" at 5:30 p.m. Fans can also tune into the free audio broadcast online at SienaAllAccess.com and watch the game through the Black Bears' multimedia platform.
