Jasleen Sandhu, Carly Holloway, Nicole Ross and Elora Benfer each captured singles points as Siena women's tennis edged crosstown rival UAlbany 4-3 Sunday. With the victory, the Saints improve to 2-0 on the spring season.
"It was a roller coaster of a match," commented head coach Andy Christodoulou. "The match revealed out determination and our ability to play in the moment."
Sandhu sneaked past Susan Ma 6-4, 7-6 (2) in first singles and after the Saints dropped the second singles, freshman Carly Holloway came through with a key third singles victory.
After dropping the first set 4-6 to the Great Danes' Sarah Iannone, Holloway battled back to capture the second set 7-5 before pulling away to win the third set and match, 6-2.
"Carly showed that she has the heart of a fighter that never gives up," added Christodoulou. "Nicole's win was very big at that moment, because it put us on level terms with Albany at 3-3."
Nicole Ross (6-3, 4-6, 7-5) and Elora Benfer (6-1, 6-3) captured the Saints other singles triumphs.
UAlbany swept the doubles matches and won at No. 2 and No. 4 singles to account for their three points.
The Saints return to action Saturday for a 10 a.m. start at Colgate.

- the match begins with the three doubles matches, followed by the six singles matches
- Each team ranks its singles players from No. 1 to No.6 and its doubles teams from No. 1 to No. 3
- Players will match up by rank: No. 1 v. No.1, No. 2 v. No. 2, etc.
Team Scoring for Division 1 College Tennis:-
- Sum of 7 points. There are 6 points for each singles match and 1 total point for all 3 doubles points. The team that wins two out of the three doubles matches will earn the one available doubles point.
- The six singles matches are each composed of two out of three sets. the first player to win two sets earns a point for her team.
- The three doubles matches are each composed of one eight game pro set; If the score reaches 8-8 in a game, only then a 12 point tiebreaker is played to determine the winner.
- Under normal circumstances all MAAC matches should be played, even if one team reached the four points needed to win.
