LOUDONVILLE, N.Y. - Three-time defending MAAC Regular Season Champion Fairfield looked every bit the part Wednesday, cruising past the Saints 19-4 in the conference opener for both schools. Senior captains Caitlin Mikel and Erin Hepper each scored twice in a losing cause.
Fairfield (7-4, 1-0) dominated from start to finish, opening a quick 8-0 lead in the first 16:24. Mikel stopped the bleeding momentarily, netting the Saints' (5-5, 0-1) first goal 19 minutes into the game.
The Stags led 12-1 at halftime and never looked back en route to their 19th consecutive MAAC Regular Season win, the second longest streak in conference history.
12 different players scored for Fairfield which out-shot the Saints 36-11 and won 17 draw controls to the Saints' eight. Brittany Bare led the Stags with three goals and an assist while Chloe Mangan added two goals and three assists for a game-high five points.
Kristin Concordia made nine saves in goal for Siena which has now dropped 15 of 16 all-time meetings against Fairfield.
The Saints will now have nine days to regroup before returning to the field a week from Friday at Manhattan. The Saints and Lady Jaspers get underway at 7 p.m. on Apr. 8 in Riverdale.
