Siena men's golf slipped to seventh place Sunday at the Lafayette Invitational, one day after tying for second with one round to go. Junior Justin Deitz, however, continued his stellar play with a 73, one that assured him a second-place finish.
Deitz's one-under-par total was one of just two under-par scores at the two-round tournament. He finished three shots behind individual medalist Carter Rufe of Lafayette, who shot rounds of 69 and 71 to take the crown.
As a team, though, the Saints struggled, submitting a score of 312 in the second round after a first-round 299. Don DeNyse III was the next-best finisher behind Deitz, tying for 30th after a second-round 79. Iona College won the 15-team tournament after firing an impressive 288 over the final 18 holes.
Siena returns to the links on Saturday, when the Saints participate in the Navy Spring Invitational in Annapolis, Md.
