Siena water polo jumped into the pool against Marist Sunday fresh off a Senior Day ceremony honoring the team's five upperclassmen, and promptly made history with the program's first-ever win over the Red Foxes in 25 all-time meetings. The Saints topped Marist 7-6, making up for a 12-7 loss to Wagner earlier that morning.
The Saints (8-11, 2-2 MAAC) didn't have the best of starts, allowing five goals to Wagner in the third period of the first of six games at the Siena Swim Center on Sunday. Devan Ragg led the Saints with three goals in the losing effort, while fellow senior Nicole Hagi added a pair.
After the ceremony that honored Ragg, Hagi, Molly Chamberlain, Jackie Crosby, and Camille Norman, the Saints jumped out to a 5-2 lead after two periods against Marist. The Red Foxes made it a game with three goals in the third, but Siena, led by three goals from Norman and 11 saves from Stephani Pouder, would persevere to snap a 24-game losing streak to their in-state rivals.
The Saints return to action later this week with a rare Thursday night game, as they travel to Hartwick for a 7 p.m. tilt.
