For the fourth time this season, Siena water polo faced off with a top-20 team. And for the fourth time this season, the Saints fell short, dropping a 17-10 decision at #11 Hartwick Wednesday night.
Camille Norman's three goals led Siena (10-14), and Nicole Hagi, Devan Ragg, and Traci Robertson all added two. However, the offense paled in comparison to that of the nationally-renowned Hawks, who jumped out to an 11-4 lead at the half.
The Saints fought back in the third period, though, outscoring the 11th-ranked team in the country 5-2. That brought the game to within four goals, but Hartwick ultimately pulled away in the final eight minutes.
Siena is now faced with their biggest weekend of the season at Villanova. They play their final MAAC games of the season Saturday against St. Francis (N.Y.) and Iona, and a win over the Terriers in the first game would assure the Saints of their second consecutive berth in the MAAC Tournament. A loss does not knock Siena out of contention, but they would need to hand Iona their first league loss and get help elsewhere.
