DeNyse Finishes Tied for 17th at NCAA Golf Regional

May 21, 2011

Don DeNyse III finished his collegiate career Saturday with a four-over-par 76 in the final round of play at the NCAA West Regional in Rancho Santa Fe, California. The co-captain ended the 54-hole event tied for 17th at plus-two (71-71-76) out of 75 competitors.

Needing a third straight fantastic round to advance to the NCAA Championships, DeNyse opened with a 37 on the back nine at the Farms Golf Club after starting on the 10th hole. He birdied his opening hole, but double-bogeyed the par-3 14th, a hole he birdied during play on Friday.

Still, the senior had a chance after two quick birdies on the first and fourth holes. They put him at minus-one for the day, and minus-three for the tournament. However, further advancement in golf's postseason wasn't in the cards, as the MAAC Champion went five-over-par on his final five holes.

26 players moved on to the NCAA Championships from the regional, including teams from UCLA, USC, San Diego, Ohio State, and Texas. The lone individual bid went to Middle Tennessee State's Jason Millard, who ended the tournament at five-under-par after a third-round 70.

DeNyse ends his Siena career with a long list of accomplishments. The product of nearby Christian Brothers Academy won MAAC Rookie of the Year honors in 2008, and finished in the top 10 at three different MAAC Championship tournaments. DeNyse's win this year made him the first to represent the Saints at an NCAA regional as an individual, and he was tied for fifth entering the final day of play.
