The Siena women's tennis team played rival Marist even in its season-opener Saturday afternoon. The Saints and Red Foxes competed against each other in the round robin Siena Fall Classic in an early test for both programs.
"We expected a tough challenge, and that's exactly what we got," head coach Andy Christodoulou said. "This tournament gave us a good measurement where we are and what we need to work on moving forward. The freshmen responded well, and they are a fantastic addition to the team."
In the A Flight singles, Siena's Jasleen Sandhu held off Joana Sun 8-5, while Erin McCarthy edged the Saints' Carly Holloway 9-7. Marist won both Flight B contests, but Siena rallied to win three of five contests at Flight C, with Cassie Braz, Brittany Filip and Elora Benfer all posting victories.
