Box Score
Five of Siena field hockey's last six outings at Siena Turf Field have been decided by a single goal. Unfortunately for the Saints, the team is now 1-4 in those contests following a 1-0 loss to visiting Colgate on Wednesday afternoon.
The score may draw assumptions of an inactive offense, but the Saints (0-5) posted a season-high 11 shots in the game. That total is the highest in nearly a calendar year, the most since the Saints tallied 11 shots at Vermont on October 3, 2010. Junior Olivia Whelly and sophomore Cory dela Gorgendiere led Siena with three shots apiece.
In net, Siena sophomore Beth Meyers had another solid showing, racking up eight saves in nine chances. However, Colgate (2-4) scored with just over 10 minutes left in regulation, as co-captain Peyton Hawkins fired the game-winning goal off the assist from fellow co-captain Sarah Hill.
Wednesday's game kicked off a busy stretch for the Saints, who will travel to Hofstra on Friday before hosting Davidson and nationally-ranked UAlbany on Sunday and Wednesday.
