Box Score
Once again the Saints scored exactly one goal - something they have done in each game so far this season. But for a second time, one goal would not be enough as women's soccer dropped a 3-1 decision Sunday afternoon at Central Connecticut State.
Siena (3-2) has scored one goal in all five games this season, but nonetheless has won three of those contests. Dating back to last year the Saints have scored exactly one goal in each of their last seven matches.
But Central Connecticut State (3-2-2) had a dominant first half, scoring twice while registering 10 shots which proved to be enough for the Blue Devils which have now won six of seven all-time meetings against the Saints.
Rosie Maguire and Jillian Cipriano gave the Blue Devils a commanding 2-0 lead early on. Ashleigh Barone brought the Saints back with a score in the 51st minute, capitalizing off a turnover deep in the CCSU zone.
But Blue Devils' reserve Allison Kelley fired a shot off Siena goalie Laura Ettinger midway through the second half that redirected into the net and sealed the deal.
CCSU out-shot the Saints 14-8 and took seven corners to Siena's four. Ettinger made one save, while the Blue Devils' Nikola Deiter stopped two shots.
The Saints return to the Capital Region Tuesday for their final non-conference home game of the year when they host Vermont at 4 p.m. Siena has won 10 straight home games and is unbeaten in their last 20 non-conference games at Siena Field.
