Second-Half Rally Falls Short at Lehigh

Sept. 28, 2011

Box Score

After falling behind 3-0 in the 40th minute at Lehigh Wednesday afternoon, Siena mustered a furious rally in the final 30 minutes. Unfortunately for the Green and Gold, the late barrage was not enough, as the Saints fell 3-2.

Siena (0-10) got its first boost from freshman Katherine Bowie, who scored her first collegiate goal in the 44th minute off a rebound after a Lehigh (2-8) defensive save. Bowie also added to her team-high assist total, finding sophomore Cory dela Gorgendiere in the 59th minute off a penalty corner to cut the deficit to 3-2.

The Saints had two chances to tie it up late, as junior Olivia Whelly fired two shots in 64 seconds in the 64th and 65th minutes. However, both were stopped by Lehigh goalkeeper Sierra Segear, and those would be the final offensive opportunities for Siena on Wednesday afternoon.

Sophomore goalkeeper Beth Meyers stopped 11 shots on the day. That final total included nine in the final 30 minutes as Siena clawed its way back into the game.

Siena returns to the Capital District for a neutral-site game against Saint Joseph's on Sunday afternoon. The game will take place at UAlbany's Alumni Turf Field at 1 p.m.
