The Siena Swimming and Diving team finished second out of 13 schools in the Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference (ECAC) Championships after an impressive performance to conclude the meet on Sunday. It was the best performance in program history by the Saints in the event.
Siena started off the day with a second place showing in the 400 medley relay. The team comprised of Katherine Canavan, Kaela Bjornberg, Amanda York, and Shannon Love finished with a time of 4:00.78. In that race, Love anchored the team and swam a total time of 52.33 seconds, the best time of any competitor in the race.
Love also garnered 28 points for her team as she finished second in the 50 free with a season best time of 24.09.
To complete her busy day, Love joined Amanda Podczerwinski, Dana Tricarico, and Jacque Medina in the 400 free relay. The squad clocked in at 3:37.08, good enough for second.
Other impressive individual performances include Jacque Medina's third place finish in the 500 free. The sophomore finished with a time of 5:11.94, only three seconds behind the top swimmer. In the same event, York enjoyed an 11th place time of 5:20.52, and freshman Megan Grace checked in 13th (5:22.45).
Bjornberg rounded out the top-five finishers for the Saints as she touched the wall in fifth in the 200 IM (2:12.36). Emily Carideo was also listed in the top 10, completing the event in ninth place (2:14.84).
Siena finished the event with 1082 points, finishing in second behind only Stevens Institute of Technology, who repeated as ECAC Champions. The Saints also finished in front of a couple MAAC schools, topping Fairfield University by nearly 200 points and beating Manhattan College by nearly 800.
Siena will return home next weekend as they welcome the Sacred Heart Pioneers to the Siena Swim Center Saturday, December 8, at 1:00 P.M.
