Going from one weather extreme to the other, Siena Women's Lacrosse traveled north to Vermont following a pair of weekend games in Florida. In search of its first win, the Saints showed improvement but could not pull through in dropping a 16-8 decision Wednesday afternoon at Vermont.
Vermont (2-0) scored twice in the first two and a half minutes and never trailed. After Siena (0-3) pulled to within 3-2 at the 21:39 mark, the Catamounts reeled off eight unanswered goals to pull away.
Samantha Stern, Emma Kelly and Marcie Marino all netted hat tricks for Vermont and Stern finished with a game-high six points.
Competing in a collegiate lacrosse matchup for the second straight season against her older sister, Siena sophomore Shannon Pfohl held the upper hand in the one-on-one matchup. While Allison Pfohl did score a pair of goals, it was her younger sister who had the bigger performance.
Shannon tallied a career-high three points, scoring two goals and an assist and also won a game-high five draw controls. Pfohl, who went scoreless in eight games as a freshman last season, has scored in all three games so far this year and is tied for the team lead with six points.
She's tied for the team lead in scoring with Deirdre McQuillan who posted her first hat trick of the season. Michelle Andreo also added two goals for the Saints, while Kristin Concordia stopped 10 shots in goal.
The Saints look to claim their second straight Oyster Bay Classic Title when they return to action Saturday at 1 p.m. vs. Wagner in Oyster Bay, N.Y.
