Final Stats

Hofstra bested the Siena women's tennis team 5-2 in Hempstead Saturday. It was the Saints first match of the spring season. Brittany Filip posted victories in singles and doubles competition to lead Siena.

"It was a tough loss today, but we really battled," head coach Andy Christodoulou said. "We played hard to the very end, and I am very proud of the team. Our high tennis IQ amazes me time after time. If we didn't started a couple of singles matches slow we would have been in the drivers seat."

Siena won the doubles point by posting wins at No. 1 and No. 3 doubles. Jasleen Sandhu teamed with Carly Halloway for an inspired win at top doubles over Elena Ivanova and Brooke Sailor. Nicole Ross and Brittany Filip won 8-5 at third doubles to clinch the point.

"Our first doubles team really showed they will be a force within the conference this season," assistant coach Caitlin Crowley said. "I was happy with the way the girls worked for every point, and I think we saw a lot of good things during the match to build on. We will take what we can from today as we move toward our next match."

Hofstra won five of six singles matches to take the match. Only Filip, a 7-5, 0-6 and 6-2 winner at No. 3 singles, emerged victorious for the Saints. Elora Benfer lost a tough 3-6, 6-2 and 10-6 decision at No. 6 singles, falling in a super tiebreaker.
