March 24, 2012

Box Score

UMass scored the game's first 11 goals and never looked back as the 17th ranked Minutewomen defeated Siena Women's Lacrosse 19-6 Saturday afternoon in Amherst, Mass. Deirdre McQuillan led the Saints offensively with a hat trick.

UMass (9-1) rattled off 11 goals in the first 17 and a half minutes before the Saints (2-7) secured their first goal with 9:47 remaining in the first half.

Siena played a much stronger second half, but did not have enough to overcome the defending Atlantic 10 Champions. UMass out-shot the Saints 38-21 and won 18 of 26 draw controls.

Katie Ferris led the Minutewomen with four goals and four assists, while Cori Murray added five points and Lauren Terracciano and Sam Rush contributed four points each. McQuillan continued to be a bright spot for the Saints and has recorded a hat trick or better in six of her last seven games. She leads the team with 29 points including 23 goals so far this season.

Maggie Deloria, Katie Maguire and Shannon Pfohl added the other goals for the Saints, while Kristin Concordia posted 11 saves in goal.

The Saints return to action next Saturday when they open MAAC play at Marist. Game time is slated for 1 p.m. from Poughkeepsie.
