Siena Splits First Two MAAC Games

March 24, 2012

It was a tale of two games Saturday for Siena water polo in Poughkeepsie, N.Y. The Saints extended their win streak to three games with a 15-5 thrashing of VMI in their conference opener, but were sunk 15-3 by Wagner in the day's final game.

Siena (6-14, 1-1 MAAC) ensured that the outcome of their first MAAC meeting with new conference member VMI was never in doubt by scoring the game's first seven goals. Cally Timm and Rebecca Robinson led the Saints with four goals apiece, while Lea Allen added two goals, three assists, and two steals and Katie Ness posted a hat trick.

However, the Saints saw their winning ways come to an end in the Saturday nightcap. The Saints fell behind to Wagner 5-0 early, but trimmed the gap to 6-2 midway through the second period. However, the Saints then allowed their opponents to score nine of the game's final 10 goals, ensuring the Green and Gold would not sweep the opening games of their conference slate.

Siena returns to the pool Sunday with games against Villanova and Iona in New Rochelle, N.Y.
