Siena Stays at .500 in MAAC Play

March 25, 2012

For the second straight day, Siena water polo split a pair of MAAC games. The Saints won their third game in four outings with a 10-7 triumph over Villanova, but fell 18-10 against Iona in the Sunday nightcap in New Rochelle, N.Y.

Siena (7-15, 2-2 MAAC) earned their second win over the Wildcats this season with a balanced offensive effort. Junior Cally Timm and freshman Jacquelyn Verdon each tallied two goals, while seniors Katie Ness and Traci Robertson each added a goal and three assists. Meanwhile, freshman goalkeeper Madeline Hurley stopped eight shots in net while also adding an assist.

The Saints, though, couldn't make it two in a row in the day's second game against perennial MAAC power Iona. Junior Rebecca Robinson and freshman Stephanie Bundas scored three goals apiece, while Bundas and Robertson each added four ejections drawn.

Siena returns to the pool on Saturday, when they go on the road to face St. Francis (NY) in a 2:30 p.m. tilt.
