The Siena women's tennis team fell 5-2 to visiting Niagara Friday afternoon in a match that could prove critical to the team's postseason chances.
Jessica Macaluso and Elora Benfer won at No. 5 and No. 6 singles to account for Siena's two points.
Hilary Hansen set the tone for the day by edging Jasleen Sandhu 7-5 and 6-2 at top singles. Ashley Ta followed suit with a 6-2 and 6-4 win over Carly Holloway at No. 2 singles.
The doubles point was very tight, with Niagara winning 8-6 at top doubles and Siena's team of Brittany Filip and Nicole Ross taking No. 3 doubles 8-5. The point was decided at No. 2 doubles where Ta and Maria Ortiz held off Siena freshmen Cassandra Braz and Macaluso 9-8.
The Saints return to action Tuesday at Manhattan.
