Siena Ekes Past Villanova, Keeps MAAC Tournament Hopes Alive

April 14, 2012

Siena water polo won the first of three huge games Saturday at Villanova, topping the host Wildcats 9-8 in double-overtime. Sophomore Lea Allen fired the game-winner to keep Siena afloat in the race for a MAAC Tournament bid.

Allen's game-winner was one of three goals for her on the day, while Traci Robertson assisted on that goal and four others while scoring once as well. Katie Ness also posted a hat trick and added eight steals, while Madeline Hurley stopped 10 shots in net.

Siena (9-19, 4-6 MAAC) has swept the season series with the Wildcats, which could prove extremely helpful. The Saints are now a game ahead of Villanova and in fourth place in the conference headed into the team's final two games of the regular season.

As much of a boost as Saturday's win was, the Saints likely need to win at least once at Villanova tomorrow. The Green and Gold face St. Francis (N.Y.) at 12 p.m. and square off with Marist at 4:30 p.m.
